David E. Kelley shares brief update on 'Big Little Lies' Season 3
BLL features Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley as stars
Big Little Lies creator and Television Academy Hall of Famer David E. Kelley provided a small update on the status of the eagerly awaited third season of the HBO drama series.
The 11-time Emmy-winning talent shared with People in a recent interview that though he’s “not allowed” to disclose specific details, fans should look forward to a reunion with their favorite moms from the coastal community.
“We’re bringing the team back together, and it should be an exciting journey once more,” he noted.
Back in September, Deadline reported that Season 3 would be crafted and executive produced by Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-creator, EP, and showrunner Francesca Sloane.
Her role comes as part of a unique two-year overall agreement Sloane inked with the acclaimed cable network.
This development marked a significant stride for the series, currently in progress, after Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, mentioned in 2024 that he and his team were holding off for author Liane Moriarty’s sequel novel before advancing with the series' next installment.
Moriarty’s upcoming sequel, set to be available on August 25 this year, will include a leap in time, depicting the women as mothers of teenagers.
“From the outset, because of the series' success, there was interest in a sequel, but I wasn’t keen to do it immediately as it didn’t feel right to continue so soon,” Moriarty mentioned to USA Today of the 10-year leap. “A time jump always felt fitting to me.”
BLL features Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley as stars, with fellow cast members Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, James Tupper, Jeffrey Nordling, and Meryl Streep appearing in Season 2.
The debut season, centered around a group of five Monterey, Calif. women caught in a murder investigation, secured half of its 16 Emmy award nominations.
Beyond BLL, Kelley crafted Margo’s Got Money Troubles, an Apple TV comedy-drama starring Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Nick Offerman, scheduled for release on April 15.
