Elon Musk’s X rolls out Cashtags to deliver real-time financial data
X has launched a new feature called Cashtags
X (formerly Twitter) has launched a new feature called Cashtags, marking a significant step in its ambition to integrate real-time financial services into its platform.
Announced by Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, the feature links user conversations directly with live financial data.
Cashtags allow users to type or search for stock tickers and cryptocurrency symbols, prompting suggestions to select the correct asset.
Once tapped, users are taken to a dedicated page displaying posts related to that asset alongside a live price chart—enabling them to monitor both market performance and public sentiment without leaving the app.
Initially unveiled in January 2026, the feature is currently available only on iOS devices and limited to users in the United States and Canada.
Bier emphasised the platform’s influence on financial decision-making, noting that billions of dollars are allocated daily based on information shared on users’ timelines.
In a further push toward financial integration, X is piloting a partnership with Wealthsimple.
The collaboration allows Canadian users to access an in-app trading button within Cashtags, enabling them to execute trades directly from the platform.
“Our vision is more than just charts,” Bier said, highlighting the goal of making trading seamless and actionable.
The rollout aligns with Elon Musk’s broader ambition to transform X into an “everything app,” expanding beyond social media into financial services. Support for Android, web, and wider global access is expected soon.
