Blake Lively has alleged that a calculated "mean girl" smear campaign orchestrated by Justin Baldoni and Wayfarer Productions has cost her nearly $300 million in lost profits and potential income.
Court documents filed on Friday reveal that the Gossip Girl actress claims a significant financial toll "in an amount of approximately $36.5 to $40.5 million" specifically due to Baldoni’s alleged use of "the retaliatory phrases ‘tone deaf,’ ‘bully,’ and ‘mean girl’" to damage her reputation.
Citing marketing expert Dr Ashlee Humphreys, Lively further claims that statements from Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, have cost her "in an amount calculated at $24,375,267."
The actress, seen at the London premiere of It Ends With Us in August 2024, suggests that the majority of this lost income—across studio films and independent projects—stems from opportunities that vanished between August 2024 and August 2029.
Furthermore, Lively claims that her companies, Betty Buzz, Betty Booze, and Blake Brown, incurred losses ranging from $39.6 million to $143.5 million.
Beyond the commercial impact, she seeks up to $400,000 for the "pain and suffering, physical pain, and humiliation" endured.
Lawyers for Baldoni hit back in their own Friday filing, arguing that labels such as "difficult to work with" did not cause further harm as such accusations "were widely circulated before Lively" began working with Baldoni.
Although a judge recently dismissed ten of Lively’s thirteen claims, the pair will go to trial over breach of contract and retaliation on May 18.
