  • Ryan and Thayer Weathers welcomed their son, Paul David, on 22 April 2026.
  • Weathers is a second-generation Yankee, following his father, David Weathers (1996).
  • The pitcher is expected to return from the paternity list for his Saturday start.

New York Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers and his wife, Thayer, have welcomed their first child, a son named Paul David Weathers.

The couple shared the news on Wednesday, with Ryan expressing "absolute awe" in an emotional Instagram post.

The 26-year-old left-hander also noted on X (formerly Twitter) that the "little man decided to come early," sharing a poignant image of a baseball stamped with his son’s tiny blue footprint.

Thayer, a former standout volleyball player for the University of Florida, had previously announced her pregnancy in late 2025.

The birth marks a heartwarming new chapter in the Weathers family’s Yankees legacy. Ryan is the son of former MLB pitcher David Weathers, who was a key member of the Yankees' 1996 World Series championship team.

Ryan joined the "Bronx Bombers" in January 2026 via a trade with the Miami Marlins, a move designed to stabilise New York's rotation.

By joining the team, he and David became the fifth father-son duo in franchise history to both play for the Yankees, joining the ranks of families like the Berra and Bellinger duos.

Following the birth, the Yankees placed Weathers on the paternity list on Wednesday. Despite the brief absence, manager Aaron Boone told reporters that the southpaw is still expected to make his next scheduled start on 25 April, against the Houston Astros.

Weathers has been a bright spot for the 2026 Yankees, recently coming off a dominant 7.1-inning scoreless performance against the Royals.

The team currently holds a strong position in the AL East as they await the return of injured ace Gerrit Cole.
