Fortnite offers refunds for D4vd items following rapper murder charge
David Anthony Burke faces serious allegations while Fortnite begins removing his content
Fortnite developer Epic Games has confirmed it will provide refunds to players who purchased in-game items related to the artist D4vd.
On Sunday, the official Fortnite X account addressed growing community concerns after the 21-year-old rapper, born David Anthony Burke, was charged with murder in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
The social media statement noted, "We hear the concerns," and outlined a series of changes being implemented. The first update arrives on Tuesday, allowing anyone who purchased these items to access an "immediate self-service refund."
Furthermore, the developer stated that "players who request refunds for D4vd cosmetics via player support can be refunded" immediately.
The decision follows harrowing reports from a procedural hearing on Thursday, where prosecutors alleged that the artist possessed illicit material and that the victim was a witness to a separate investigation.
Hernandez's remains were discovered in September 2025 within an impounded vehicle registered to the musician.
Her family, who established a GoFundMe page, described the teenager as a "beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend" who was deeply cherished.
The controversy marks a sharp decline for the Houston-born artist, who previously credited the game for his musical start.
In 2025, his track "Locked & Loaded" was celebrated as the first official theme song for the platform.
D4vd once told Variety that creating the anthem felt like a "full-circle moment" for his career. However, he now faces a potential sentence of life without parole or the death penalty if convicted of the charges.
