According to the combined principles of naturopathy and Ayurveda, human health exists as a harmonious relationship between body functions, mental activities, and environmental conditions.

Dr Uma Shankar Sharma, medical-in-charge at the Kailash Institute of Naturopathy, Ayurveda and Yoga, shared in a conversation with HT Lifestyle that everyday hectic routines are making people sick.

"The rise of obesity and hypertension, along with diabetes and digestive disorders, shows that people develop medical conditions because of their daily lifestyle choices," Dr Sharma noted.

Prolonged inactivity represents a significant hazard, leading to decreased metabolic rates and reduced blood circulation.

Urban professionals often experience chronic pain and fatigue because "poor posture, combined with excessive screen time, creates an environment that fosters these conditions."

Skipping meals

Eating patterns also play a critical role in long-term wellness. People who skip meals, consume processed foods, or eat excessively at night prevent their bodies from digesting food naturally.

This results in acidity and bloating, which leads to metabolic issues that last for extended periods.

Sleep deprivation

Dr Uma identified sleep deprivation as a silent disruptor. Inadequate sleep results in hormonal disturbances that lead to immune system breakdowns and negative effects on mental health.

Furthermore, fast-paced work environments create chronic stress. This results in "continuous cortisol production to increased body weight, heart problems, and inflammation."

Solution

The body signals distress through minor symptoms that people usually ignore until they become serious. Dr Sharma mentioned that the solution requires developing habits through continuous practice:

  • Maintain a regular sleep schedule.
  • Engage in physical activities like yoga.
  • Eat fresh, seasonal foods.
  • Use stress management techniques like pranayama and meditation.

"Your daily routine functions as a schedule that establishes your pathway toward enduring health," Dr Sharma told HT Lifestyle.
