Beauty queen Carolina Flores Gómez found shot dead as husband delayed reporting
No arrests have been made as the case remains under investigation
A former beauty pageant winner was found fatally shot in a Mexico City apartment earlier this month, with new details emerging about the hours following her death and the investigation now focusing on possible family involvement.
Carolina Flores Gómez, 27, was discovered dead on April 15 inside a residence in the upscale Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City. She had reportedly been shot in the head, according to multiple local reports.
Gómez, who was crowned Miss Teen Universe Baja California in 2017, was originally from Ensenada, Baja California. Her death has triggered a widening investigation, with authorities still not announcing any arrests or formal charges.
Her husband, Alejandro Sánchez, was reportedly present at the apartment at the time of the incident, along with Gómez’s mother-in-law, according to reports citing prosecutors. Investigators are now reportedly examining the possibility that the mother-in-law may have been involved in the shooting.
One of the most troubling aspects of the case involves the delay in reporting her death. Local journalist Carlos Jiménez reported that Sánchez did not contact authorities until the following day.
According to statements shared by Jiménez on television outlet Uno TV, Sánchez told investigators he delayed reporting the death because he was caring for the couple’s eight-month-old baby.
He reportedly explained that he needed time to “feed” the infant, who was still at a breastfeeding stage, before alerting authorities.
Gómez’s mother, Reyna Gómez Molina, also spoke publicly about the tragedy, saying her son-in-law told her he waited to report the incident out of concern for the child’s well-being.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Gómez’s death, including conflicting accounts from those present in the apartment at the time of the shooting.
