Gaten Matarazzo has opened up about his long-term relationship with actress Elizabeth Yu, offering rare insight into how the couple has managed to maintain their bond after nearly eight years together.

The Stranger Things star discussed his relationship during a recent appearance on Dear Chelsea, where he reflected on what has helped the pair stay strong since first getting together as teenagers.

Responding to a lighthearted remark from host Chelsea Handler about “surviving” a long-term relationship that began at a young age, Matarazzo pushed back on the phrasing, emphasizing that communication has been the foundation of their partnership.

“Survive is a funny word. We communicate really, really well,” he said, noting that open dialogue has been key to maintaining stability over the years.

Matarazzo also highlighted how the couple manages periods of long-distance due to their work schedules. 

He explained that rather than seeing distance as a strain, they have built a routine that allows them to reconnect in a shared home base between projects.

“Anytime we go and travel for work, we know we’re coming back to each other here in the city,” he said, describing their ability to stay grounded despite busy filming commitments.

While the couple often spends time apart due to professional obligations, Matarazzo confirmed that they are not currently living together, though they remain geographically close and committed to maintaining their relationship at a steady pace.

The actor’s comments offered a rare glimpse into his private life, as he and Yu, who began dating in 2018, have largely kept their relationship out of the public spotlight.
