Scott Patterson admits he never watched 'Gilmore Girls' while filming hit series
The actor only revisited the series years later through his podcast
Scott Patterson has revealed that he never watched Gilmore Girls while filming the hit series, admitting that he had little interest in revisiting his own work after long shooting days on set.
Speaking in a recent interview on FOX 29’s late-night show MIKE, the 67-year-old actor explained that the demanding production schedule left him with no desire to watch the show once filming wrapped each day.
“Because I made the sausage for 14 hours a day, I didn’t want to eat it,” Patterson said, adding that television production left little room for rest or leisure during its seven-season run from 2000 to 2007.
Patterson played Luke Danes, the diner owner and love interest of Lorelai Gilmore, portrayed by Lauren Graham, in the beloved fictional town of Stars Hollow.
Years later, however, Patterson revisited the series for his podcast I Am All In with Scott Patterson, where he watched each episode for the first time while offering commentary and reflections for fans.
The actor admitted he was surprised by how much he enjoyed the show once he finally sat down to watch it. “I loved it,” he said, adding that he finally understood the passion of its loyal fanbase.
Patterson praised creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, calling them “once-in-a-generation” talents with a unique comedic voice that shaped the series’ tone and storytelling.
He also reflected on Graham’s performance, describing her fast-paced dialogue delivery as one of the defining elements of the show’s charm.
“She's delivering 50 jokes an episode,” he said, noting that Gilmore Girls continues to attract new audiences who reinterpret its characters differently with each rewatch.
