Benedict Cumberbatch viral street argument with cyclist sparks online debate
The confrontation reportedly lasted around 10 minutes before the cyclist left the scene
Benedict Cumberbatch has gone viral after being filmed in a heated roadside confrontation with a cyclist in central London, an incident that quickly spread across social media and sparked widespread debate.
The Doctor Strange and Sherlock star was reportedly involved in a verbal exchange near King’s Cross Station last week, with footage published by The Sun showing a tense argument between Cumberbatch and another cyclist on the street.
In the video, the actor is heard accusing the masked rider of “verbally abusing” him, while the cyclist can be heard calling him “deluded” during the exchange.
The confrontation is said to have lasted around 10 minutes before the other man eventually left the scene.
According to onlookers, the situation escalated rapidly but remained verbal rather than physical. One witness described it as “crazy,” adding that the encounter felt unusually intense for a road disagreement.
“It was such a pompous road rage it almost felt like it had been staged,” the bystander said, while also noting that Cumberbatch “still managed to charm everyone watching even though he was having a meltdown.”
Another witness suggested the masked cyclist appeared to be acting like a “vigilante,” while expressing surprise upon realizing the identity of the actor involved.
Despite the tension, the scene briefly shifted when nearby schoolchildren recognized Cumberbatch and approached him for photographs.
The actor reportedly declined at the moment, saying, “not at the moment, in a minute,” before continuing the exchange.
Some fans later reacted to the clip on the social media platform X, with opinions divided.
One user defended the actor, writing, “I am with Strange on this one,” while others joked about his superhero role, referencing his character from the Doctor Strange franchise.
Another commenter remarked, “It turns out Benedict is just a normal human,” reflecting the broader sentiment that the incident showed a more grounded side of the actor.
