Debbie Harry cast as Pamela Anderson’s mother in new film 'Maitreya'
Pamela Anderson and Debbie Harry are set to star together in the upcoming spiritual comedy 'Maitreya'
Pamela Anderson is set to star alongside Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry in a new genre-blending comedy film titled Maitreya, marking an unexpected on-screen pairing that has already drawn industry attention.
The project sees 80-year-old music icon Debbie Harry stepping into a rare film role as the mother of Anderson’s character.
The former Baywatch star leads the film as Maitreya, a New Age spiritual healer whose carefully curated life unravels during a family crisis.
Directed by Portlandia co-creator Jonathan Krisel and written by The Whale screenwriter Samuel D. Hunter, the film mixes spiritual satire with family drama and road-trip chaos.
The story follows Maitreya as she prepares for a major spiritual healing conference in India when she receives news that her estranged father has fallen seriously ill.
Rather than abandon her plans, she makes a spontaneous decision to bring her entire family—including her mother, played by Harry—on the journey.
What begins as a professional trip quickly turns into a dysfunctional family expedition, with Maitreya secretly using the experience as material for her upcoming book while attempting to “heal” long-standing emotional rifts within her family.
The film is currently being introduced to buyers at Cannes, with production scheduled to begin later this year.
Production company Caviar has described the project as a blend of emotional storytelling and offbeat comedy, calling it a concept that has generated strong early excitement.
For Anderson, the role continues her recent Hollywood resurgence.
She has also been working on Queen of the Falls, a crime-tinged road romance alongside actor Guy Pearce, which follows two fugitives on a chaotic journey toward Niagara Falls.
