Katie Holmes embraces low-profile life in NYC after 2012 Tom Cruise divorce
The actress is said to have chosen a quieter life in New York City, focused on privacy
Katie Holmes reportedly chose to retreat from Hollywood’s spotlight following her high-profile divorce from Tom Cruise in 2012, opting instead for a quieter life away from fame in New York City.
According to Radar Online, the actress deliberately stepped back from red carpets, major studio projects, and the intensity of Hollywood attention in favour of a more private and controlled lifestyle.
An insider told the outlet that the transition was a significant adjustment but ultimately necessary for Holmes at the time.
“It was quite an adaptation for Katie to drop out of the spotlight like she did,” the source said, adding that she needed “privacy and a brand-new start that was as pressure-free as possible.”
Following her divorce after more than five years of marriage, Holmes is said to have relocated to Manhattan, where she could move more freely and build a more private environment for herself and her daughter, Suri.
The insider further noted that the lifestyle shift was initially intended as temporary but eventually became long-term.
“Katie is still living under the radar, and for the most part, it suits her perfectly,” the source said.
However, the report also suggests that not all aspects of the decision were without consequence.
According to the insider, stepping away from mainstream Hollywood reduced her access to high-profile career opportunities and major studio projects.
Despite this, Holmes is described as financially comfortable, though she is said to occasionally miss the scale of her former acting career.
While Holmes has remained largely private about her marriage and divorce, Tom Cruise previously acknowledged in a legal deposition that Scientology was one factor linked to the couple’s split.
In recent years, Holmes has focused on smaller-scale film and theatre work, alongside independent creative projects.
She has also expanded into filmmaking, reportedly writing, directing, and starring in the Happy Hours trilogy alongside former co-star Joshua Jackson, continuing her low-profile creative path in Manhattan.
