Scarlett Johansson has opened up about reuniting with Adam Driver nearly seven years after their acclaimed performances in Marriage Story.

The two actors, who previously played a married couple navigating a painful divorce in the 2019 Netflix drama, are now teaming up again in the upcoming crime thriller Paper Tiger, where they take on entirely different dynamics on screen.

Speaking in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Johansson, 41, said she has continued to admire working with Driver and wished they had even more shared scenes together in the new project.

“I would’ve loved to have had even more scenework with him, I love working with him,” she said.

In Paper Tiger, directed by James Gray, Johansson plays Hester Pearl, the wife of Irwin Pearl (played by Miles Teller).

The story follows a family living in 1980s New York whose life is disrupted when Irwin’s brother, Gary (Driver), arrives and draws them into a dangerous conflict involving the Russian mafia.

While the film marks a shift from the emotional intensity of Marriage Story, Johansson said the experience of working on set was equally meaningful, particularly her bond with Teller.

She described Teller as “unexpectedly tender,” adding that the cast developed a close, supportive dynamic during production.

At one point during filming, she recalled receiving photos of her makeup station while away for promotional work, a gesture she said reflected the warmth on set.

Johansson and Driver’s on-screen history remains one of modern cinema’s most talked-about collaborations.

In Marriage Story, the pair delivered powerful performances as a couple enduring a devastating breakup, a role that earned widespread critical acclaim and multiple awards for the film.

Reflecting on that earlier project, Johansson once revealed that filming emotionally charged arguments with Driver required intense commitment from both actors.

“We spent two entire days screaming at each other, brutally screaming and fighting for two full days,” she previously said, describing the exhausting but creatively important process.

More recently, Johansson has continued to praise Driver publicly, calling him “an absolutely extraordinary actor” and expressing enthusiasm about working with him again whenever possible.

“If I could make every movie with Adam Driver, I would,” she said.

Paper Tiger is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, May 16.
