John Legend proved himself every inch the devoted husband at the 2026 American Music Awards in Las Vegas on Monday, stepping in swiftly after his wife Chrissy Teigen suffered a wardrobe malfunction on the blue carpet.

Teigen, 40, arrived at the MGM Grand Garden Arena looking glamorous in a floor-length beaded orange gown, which she paired with gold heels.

But while the couple posed for photographs, her heel caught on the hem of the dress, forcing her to stop mid-pose.

A quick rescue on the carpet

Legend immediately bent down to help free the fabric, assisted by another woman who stepped in alongside him.

Despite their efforts, the damage had already been done — several beads detached from the delicate gown and scattered across the carpet.

Teigen took the mishap in her stride, laughing off the incident and continuing to pose for pictures with her husband.

Legend also drew attention in his own right, cutting a stylish figure in a tan trench coat and matching high-waist trousers.

Playful humour never far away

The wardrobe drama did little to dampen Teigen's spirits. True to the couple's well-known sense of humour, she shared a light-hearted moment on her Instagram Stories later in the evening, filmed while lying in bed.

"After you're done performing, should we just, like, go to 'Magic Mike' or something?" she asked the All of Me singer, laughing. She returned to the subject a second time, murmuring to the camera: "So we could go see 'Magic Mike.'"

Teigen and Legend, who have been married since September 2013, are widely known for their candid and playful dynamic.

The secrets to a 12-year marriage

In January, Teigen offered a candid and rather unexpected glimpse into what keeps their relationship thriving after more than a decade. "For all he knows, I have never farted or pooped," she told E! News.

"You got to keep the sexy and preserve the sexy in a little bit of ways," she explained. "I won't say that John necessarily does that all the time, but I make sure that I do."

Legend, 47, has also been forthcoming about the ingredients he considers essential to a lasting relationship. During an appearance on Call Her Daddy in March 2023, he revealed that he and Teigen keep a lock on their bedroom door — specifically to keep their children out.

He was equally candid about what he finds most attractive in his wife, naming her sense of humour above all else.

"It's probably obvious, but she makes me laugh all of the time and I think that just changes your whole world when you have somebody around you that makes you laugh," he said.

"Even when you go through the worst things … when [your partner] has a sense of humor it just makes life better, it really does," he added.
