  • The source game has over 100,000 Steam downloads and a 94% positive rating
  • Skyline Media launched the project to buyers at the Cannes Film Market this month

Singapore-based film investment group Triple Green CineCapital (TGC) has formalised a partnership with Chánh Phương Films on "The Scourge" (Tai Ương), a Vietnamese horror film adapted from a video game.

The deal marks TGC's first investment in Vietnam, with the project having been launched to buyers by Skyline Media at the Cannes Film Market this month.

TGC's Southeast Asian ambitions

TGC made its industry debut at Indonesia's JAFF Market in 2025, with a clear focus on commercial cinema across Southeast Asia's emerging markets.

The group's partnership with Chánh Phương Films — whose slate includes local box office successes Bẫy Rồng, Em Chưa 18, and Để Mai Tính — represents the first co-production between the two companies.

A vote of confidence in Vietnamese cinema

TGC chief executive Leonard Lai explained the rationale behind the investment, stating: "The film markets in Vietnam and Southeast Asia have incredible room to grow with unique local stories that have not been fully explored yet, in which expanding the content ecosystem is one of the most important strategies.

"TGC decides to choose 'The Scourge' as our first investment in Vietnam to reinforce the power of original content IP and local filmmakers in Southeast Asia.

"This partnership with Chánh Phương Films shows TGC's trust in the commercial value of the Vietnamese entertainment industry, combined with a clear business plan to bring Vietnamese films to global audiences."

Charlie Nguyễn, a producer at Chánh Phương Films, welcomed the collaboration, saying: "The companion of a regional investment partner with a global mindset like TGC gives us a strong launchpad, proving that Vietnamese stories and talents are strong enough to compete internationally and set a new standard for adapted horror films in Vietnam."

From Steam to the silver screen

The source video game upon which the film is based has now surpassed 100,000 downloads and holds a 94% positive rating on Steam.

Set within a haunted apartment building in Ho Chi Minh City, the game draws inspiration from a real abandoned structure in the city.

The film adaptation will broaden the story considerably, weaving in local urban legends, ghost stories, and traditional Vietnamese customs.

Đoàn Sĩ Nguyên, known for his work on Điều Ước Cuối Cùng, will take the director's chair, working from a screenplay by Trần Khánh Hoàng, whose previous credits include Em Chưa 18.

Nguyễn and Jimmy Nghiêm Phạm serve as producers, whilst Skyline Media oversees international sales.
