Robert Pattinson opens up about intense training ahead of 'The Batman' sequel
The actor says he trained relentlessly despite criticism of his physique in 'The Batman'
Robert Pattinson has finally responded to criticism surrounding his physique in 2022's The Batman, clarifying that he worked far harder behind the scenes than many critics assumed.
The actor, who is set to return as Gotham's Dark Knight in The Batman: Part II, reflected on the controversy during a recent interview with GQ, where he pushed back against claims that he did not take physical preparation for the role seriously.
Pattinson explained that despite maintaining a rigorous workout routine throughout filming, his appearance did not always match the expectations some fans had for a traditional superhero physique.
Addressing the backlash, the 40-year-old actor said he exercised extensively while preparing for the role, revealing that he would often train twice a day, including sessions as early as three o'clock in the morning.
He also clarified comments from previous interviews in which he appeared dismissive of workout culture.
“I’m like, it’s just because I said it in an interview [that exercise was uncool]. I was trying to sound cool!” Pattinson admitted.
Looking ahead to the sequel, the actor revealed that he has stepped up his training efforts by installing a home gym at his Beverly Hills residence to prepare for another demanding production schedule.
Pattinson also shared that he recently received an update from the film's stunt team regarding the shoot.
“I just heard from the stunt guy the other day. He said, ‘Ooh, 11 weeks of nights.’ I’m like, ‘Excuse me?’ I’m like, ‘No one’s even sent me a schedule,’” he joked.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman: Part II is currently in development and is expected to arrive in theaters next year, with Pattinson once again taking on the iconic role of Batman.
