Nearly three years on from her high-profile separation from Gerard Piqué, Shakira has made it clear that romance is the last thing on her mind.

No plans for dating

In a new interview with People magazine published on Wednesday, the 49-year-old singer was candid about where her priorities lie, stating firmly that she has no interest in pursuing a new relationship at this stage of her life.

"I'm just thinking of raising my kids. I don't see that for now. Maybe when they're older," said Shakira.

The Colombian superstar shares two sons with her former partner: Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11.

Life after the split

Shakira also reflected on how she navigated the aftermath of the breakdown of her 11-year relationship, acknowledging that even in the most difficult moments, everyday responsibilities demanded her full attention.

"When your world collapses, you have to get up and pay the bills and still prepare breakfast and take your kids to school. Life needs to go on," she told the outlet.

The strength of motherhood

The Whenever, Wherever hitmaker went on to speak warmly about the transformative effect that becoming a mother has had on her outlook.

"Motherhood makes you strong," she said. "The moment I became a mother, I saw life through a different perspective, and my kids are not only the best thing that happened to me, but I've learned so much from them every day."

Background

Shakira and Piqué confirmed their separation on 4 June 2022, after more than a decade together. At the time, the former couple released a joint statement that read: "We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we request respect for (our) privacy. Thank you for your understanding."
