David Beckham highlights trust and self-belief in business talk at Forbes Summit
The former footballer described self-investment and trust as key principles behind his financial approach
David Beckham has reflected on his approach to business, saying that backing people he believes in, particularly his wife, fashion designer Victoria Beckham, has been a defining part of his investment philosophy.
Speaking at Forbes’ fifth annual Iconoclast Summit in New York City, the former footballer and businessman said one of the most important lessons he has learned is the value of self-belief and surrounding himself with people he trusts.
“One of the best pieces of advice that I’ve probably been given in business is that I like to invest in myself,” he said, adding that his financial decisions are often driven by long-term belief in personal relationships and shared vision.
He specifically pointed to his support for Victoria Beckham’s fashion label, saying, “I like to invest in my wife because I know that she’s going to get up every single morning and go to work.”
Beckham’s remarks come after years of public discussion around the financial challenges faced by Victoria Beckham’s fashion business, which he backed from its early stages.
The brand has previously acknowledged significant economic pressure during its growth period.
In her 2025 Netflix documentary series, Victoria Beckham described a difficult phase for the company, revealing that the business had been “tens of millions in the red” and that she often felt overwhelmed by the strain of trying to keep it afloat.
“I almost lost everything and that was a dark, dark time,” she said in the series, adding that she often cried before work due to the pressure.
She also reflected on the complexity of mixing business with marriage, noting that Beckham was both her husband and business partner during the company’s struggles, which made the situation especially difficult to navigate.
Despite those challenges, David Beckham’s recent comments suggest continued confidence in supporting ventures built on trust, consistency, and shared commitment.
