Missouri man gets 14 years for fatal shooting over alleged love triangle
He admitted killing a man at a Kansas City gas station in December 2025
Missouri man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to fatally shooting another man at a Kansas City gas station in a case investigators said stemmed from an alleged love triangle.
Ramel Morgan, 20, admitted to second-degree murder over the Dec. 7, 2025, shooting. Authorities said the victim managed to drive himself to hospital but later died from his injuries.
Surveillance footage captures shooting
According to court documents, police responded to reports of a shooting at a Kansas City gas station shortly before midnight on Dec. 7, 2025.
Officers arrived to find the suspect and victim had already left the scene. Investigators later learned the victim had driven himself to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Surveillance footage allegedly showed Morgan arriving at the gas station with three other people before entering the convenience store carrying what appeared to be a handgun. Investigators said he repeatedly walked in and out of the store before approaching the victim after his silver Ford Mustang pulled into the car park.
Police said Morgan briefly spoke to the victim before firing multiple shots into the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
Witnesses describe relationship dispute
Investigators recovered a 9mm shell casing from the scene, while officers found a Glock .40-calibre handgun inside the victim's car at the hospital.
According to police, a witness who recorded the incident captured a man saying, "Come here before I kill this [expletive]," followed by a woman responding, "You do what you have to do."
Witnesses also told investigators Morgan asked the victim if he had come to see a woman who was reportedly romantically involved with both men. Police believe the alleged relationship dispute was the motive for the shooting.
Morgan pleads guilty to murder
Authorities said several witnesses later identified Morgan in a photo lineup, while another witness told investigators Morgan admitted to the shooting after seeing the victim with a gun.
Morgan turned himself in to police several weeks after the shooting and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on July 9. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
