Anne Hathaway has opened up about the emotional journey that led to her third pregnancy, revealing she had "very low" expectations of conceiving at 43 before receiving what she now calls an unexpected blessing.

The Oscar-winning actress shared her thoughts while attending the New York premiere of The Odyssey on July 14, explaining why she previously referred to her pregnancy as a "buzzer-beater."

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Hathaway said she and her husband, Adam Shulman, chose to let life unfold naturally despite believing their chances of expanding their family were slim.

"There's always hope until there's not, but when you get to a certain age, that hope looks like 1% to 2%," Hathaway said.

"So we just decided to see where life took us, with a very, very healthy, realistic expectation, which was very low."

The actress said the couple are deeply grateful for the pregnancy because they understand that growing a family is not something everyone gets to experience.

"We're overjoyed because we just know from personal experience that not everybody gets this, and certainly not when you want it—sometimes not ever," she added.

Hathaway described the pregnancy as a "blessing" that she and Shulman, whom she married in 2012, "do not take for granted."

The couple are already parents to two sons, Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 star announced she was expecting her third child in June with an Instagram video showing off her baby bump in a flowing white dress.

In a recent interview with People, Hathaway also reflected on life as a "boy mom," saying raising her sons has influenced everything from her daily routine to her wardrobe.

"I'm a tomboy! I love that being a boy mom has really informed my fashion," she said, adding that she always dresses with the expectation that one of her children might throw something by breakfast.

Hathaway is currently promoting The Odyssey, which arrives in theaters on July 17.
