New Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Emily Awbrey is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at how she conceals her hand tattoo to comply with the squad's appearance rules.

Awbrey, who officially earned a spot on the 2026-27 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders team after returning as one of the organization's "comeback girls," shared a step-by-step tutorial on Instagram explaining the makeup routine she uses before performances.

The rookie's tattoo caught the attention of viewers during season three of America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

According to the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders' official guidelines, candidates may audition with tattoos, but no tattoo—regardless of size—can be visible while wearing the uniform or rehearsal attire.

Addressing fans' curiosity, Awbrey said she had received numerous questions about her routine.

"I've gotten a lot of questions asking how I do it, so I thought I'd do a little video and show you how I cover it," she explained.

In the tutorial, Awbrey demonstrated how she applies multiple layers of body foundation, setting powder and additional makeup to blend the tattoo into her skin tone. She also revealed that she uses an old beauty blender exclusively for the process.

The cheerleader admitted covering the tattoo is challenging, especially on her fingers, where makeup tends to wear off quickly because of constant movement.

She also shared that she doesn't always conceal her finger tattoo, noting that it is usually hidden by her pom-poms during performances.

Awbrey acknowledged the final result isn't flawless but said it is effective enough to meet the team's appearance standards.

"Is it perfect? No. But it will get the job done," she said.

She finished the routine with bronzer and multiple layers of setting spray, describing the final step as "arguably the most important" for helping the makeup stay in place.

The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have maintained strict appearance standards for decades, including rules regarding visible tattoos, body presentation and makeup.

Current director Kelli Finglass previously defended those guidelines, saying the organization has always upheld high standards because of its visibility and iconic uniform.
