Priyanka Chopra recalls unusual first text from Nick Jonas

Priyanka Chopra has shared a surprising detail about the early days of her romance with Nick Jonas, revealing the singer asked for proof of her identity before their relationship took off.

The actress recalled the memorable exchange while appearing alongside her husband and his brothers, Kevin and Joe Jonas, on the Hey Jonas podcast.

According to Chopra, Jonas wanted to be certain he was texting the real Priyanka after they first connected.

"I'll tell you what that first text was. He wanted to corroborate it was actually me," she said.

"So he asked me for a photo — that moment — looking at the camera with a time stamp."

Although she found the request unusual, Chopra admitted she understood why he asked.

"I was like, 'That is so sus of me already.' But I appreciated it too," she said.

Jonas initially thought the picture featured Chopra eating peanut butter, but she quickly corrected his memory.

"No, it was after a fashion show. I was cute that day," she joked.

The exchange marked the beginning of a relationship that continued through months of texting before the couple officially started dating.

Nick recalled that they remained in touch for about a year and a half before beginning their romance, which eventually led to their engagement.

The couple married in December 2018 and welcomed their daughter, Malti, in January 2022.

During the podcast, the family also revisited how their first conversation began after Jonas sent Chopra a direct message on social media.

Joe Jonas read aloud Nick's original message: "Hello, I've heard from a few people that we should meet. I have to agree with these people. Are you in L.A. anytime soon?"

Kevin Jonas then playfully read Chopra's response: "Hey, Graham's told me so much about you. Let's text. My team can access this."

The lighthearted reading prompted laughter from everyone on the podcast, with Chopra admitting she felt slightly embarrassed revisiting the early stages of their now-famous love story.
