Alix Earle opens up about handling online criticism and personal struggles

Social media influencer Alix Earle has learned to brush off criticism while continuing to share her life online.

The 25-year-old TikTok star, who has amassed over eight million followers, told People that handling negative comments is simply part of the job.

"There's always a bunch going on on the internet, and I don't know if something is wrong with me or not, but I love sharing everything on there," Earle said.

"So I've gotten used to people either talking about me or sharing fake information, and I think that's just part of the job. It doesn't really bother me. It's definitely not for everyone. You have to have pretty thick skin for it."

Despite the criticism, Earle said connecting with her audience makes it worthwhile.

"For me it's just always worth it at the end of the day because I am able to either help someone or inspire them or entertain them. Connecting with my audience is the most special thing," she added.

When she isn’t creating content, Earle prioritizes downtime and normalcy. "Recently I will sleep in as much as possible. Then I'll take my dog on a nice long walk and get a good workout in. It's about getting to enjoy some normalcy, making myself feel good and having a reset," she explained.

Earle also recently launched the skincare brand Reale Actives, inspired by her own struggles with acne.

Reflecting on her experience, she said: "Around middle school I started to really struggle with my skin, and I would have my mom try to cover it up with makeup. In high school, I never was able to get my skin 100 percent."

She added that her college years were particularly challenging.

"I started Accutane in college, and I did it three times. The third time was one of the lowest points of my life self-esteem wise. I didn't want to leave the house. I didn't want to go to the gym. I didn't want to go to class."
