Rita Ephrem dies at 31 after inspiring thousands with rare illness journey

Rita Ephrem, a Brazilian content creator who built a devoted following by documenting her life with a rare auto-inflammatory condition, has died at the age of 31.

Her passing on March 26 was confirmed in a statement shared via her social media account, where she had amassed more than 300,000 followers.

The tribute remembered her as someone who “lived with intensity, with faith, and with a love that touched so many lives.”

“She went to find rest in heaven… after a journey marked by great struggle, courage, and also much pain,” the message read, adding that her story would continue to inspire those who followed her journey.

Born in Belo Horizonte to Lebanese parents, Ephrem spent part of her early life in Lebanon, where she studied mechanical engineering and pursued futsal.

She later returned to Brazil in her mid-20s, around the time she began experiencing severe health complications that ultimately led to her diagnosis with a rare auto-inflammatory disease.

Despite frequent hospitalizations, Ephrem used her platform to share updates on her treatment, reflect on her spirituality, and raise awareness about chronic illnesses.

Her candid posts resonated widely, earning her a loyal and engaged audience.

Earlier in March, her family revealed she had been in critical condition and required intensive medical support.

Following news of her death, tributes poured in from fellow content creators and followers, many of whom described her as a source of strength, faith, and inspiration.

Her funeral service was held in São Paulo on March 31.
