Noah Wyle denies long-standing rumors of Ross Geller audition for Friends
Noah Wyle recalls his early impressions of the medical drama that launched his career
Actor Noah Wyle has officially dismissed long-standing rumours that he auditioned for the role of Ross Geller on Friends prior to his breakout role on ER.
In an interview with Variety published this week, the 54-year-old actor addressed the speculation with a touch of humour.
"My memory is a little spotty, but I would remember auditioning for Friends," Wyle stated, adding that at the time, he possessed a certain "snobbery" about pursuing a career in television.
The Golden Globe winner, who recently returned to the medical drama genre with his new series The Pitt, reflected on how he originally mistook ER for a feature film project.
"When I found out it was a show, I didn't really care, because I thought, 'It's so good, they're going to cancel it,'" he recalled.
Wyle admitted that the consistency and complexity he once feared would be boring actually provided him with a sense of "family" and creative fulfilment over the last 30 years.
The interview followed a significant career milestone for the Falling Skies star. On Thursday, Wyle was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
During an emotional ceremony, he dedicated the achievement to his wife, Sara Wells, and his three children: Owen, Auden, and Frances. "You are the reason I get up," Wyle told his family during his acceptance speech.
"I thank you for your inspiration and for giving my life meaning and definition." The actor’s star is located near the historic Hollywood and Vine intersection, marking his enduring impact on the American television landscape.
