John Wells reveals season 3 release timeline for 'The Pitt'
Season 1 of The Pitt debuted on January 9, 2025
The second season of HBO Max’s critically acclaimed medical drama The Pitt is coming to a close, and anticipation is already building for what’s next.
While fans will still have to wait, the gap between seasons may not be as long as expected.
Executive producer and director John Wells recently shared an encouraging update on the show’s production timeline.
Speaking on March 19, Wells revealed that work on Season 3 is already underway.
“The writers’ room started last week, and they’re just wrapping up their second week,” he said, adding that filming is expected to begin in June.
If all goes according to plan, the new season could premiere in January next year, mirroring the release pattern of previous installments, with another 15 episodes planned.
Season 1 of The Pitt debuted on January 9, 2025, followed closely by Season 2 on January 8, 2026, establishing a consistent early-year release schedule that the creators appear keen to maintain.
Meanwhile, the Season 2 finale is set to air tonight, bringing a dramatic chapter to a close for Dr. Robby, portrayed by Noah Wyle.
Over the course of the series, the character has faced relentless emotional and professional challenges while working in a high-pressure emergency room environment.
Although Dr. Robby appeared to be in a better place at the start of Season 2, the narrative gradually revealed deeper struggles.
His supposed plans for a getaway masked a far more troubling reality, as the season explored his internal turmoil and hinted at a tragic mindset.
Even as the finale approaches, the show suggests that Robby has yet to reach his lowest point — leaving significant emotional ground to cover in the upcoming season.
With production already moving forward and a tentative release window in place, The Pitt looks set to return with more high-stakes drama sooner rather than later.
