Madonna, Geena Davis spark nostalgia with surprise Coachella reunion
The singer and actress brought 'A League of Their Own' memories back to life at Coachella
Madonna and Geena Davis delighted fans with a nostalgic reunion at Coachella, paying tribute to their iconic film A League of Their Own more than three decades after its release.
The former co-stars crossed paths backstage following their surprise appearances during Sabrina Carpenter’s set on April 17.
Davis later shared a photo of the moment on Instagram, captioning it in character as Dorothy “Dottie” Hinson, addressing Madonna’s Mae Mordabito: “Mae — so happy to see you again! Love, Dottie.”
Both stars made memorable cameos during Carpenter’s performance. Davis, 70, appeared first, portraying an older version of the singer dubbed “Aunt Sabrina” and delivered a mid-show monologue, stepping into a role previously played by Susan Sarandon during an earlier weekend.
As the set drew to a close, Carpenter brought out Madonna, 67, for a surprise duet.
The pop icon joined her on stage to perform hits including Vogue and Like a Prayer, before teasing new music believed to be from her upcoming Confessions II project.
Reflecting on the experience days later, Madonna shared that she was “still flying high” from the performance, calling it “a moment in history” and expressing gratitude to Carpenter for the collaboration.
The reunion also marked a full-circle moment for fans of A League of Their Own, the 1992 sports comedy directed by Penny Marshall.
The film, inspired by the real-life Rockford Peaches of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, featured Davis and Madonna alongside Rosie O'Donnell and Tom Hanks.
More than 30 years on, the pair’s Coachella reunion served as both a celebration of their enduring friendship and a tribute to one of Hollywood’s most beloved sports films.
