Zahara Marley Jolie has opened up about her close relationship with her mother, actress Angelina Jolie, describing their bond as “unique” and “kindred” during a recent public appearance in Atlanta.

The 21-year-old Spelman College senior spoke at a mother-daughter brunch hosted by the Pearls of Purpose Foundation on Sunday, April 26, where she reflected on growing up with Jolie and the values she says shaped her life.

Speaking to attendees, Zahara explained that while it was difficult to fully express her relationship with her mother, she views their connection as deeply special and rooted in shared purpose and values.

“Our love for each other is a found one,” she said, noting that she was adopted at six months old and raised in a family that emphasized kindness, compassion, and service to others.

Zahara credited Jolie with instilling a strong sense of empathy and responsibility, saying her mother’s humanitarian work around the world inspired her own interest in helping others and taking on leadership roles.

She also spoke about navigating life in the public eye, explaining that growing up in a globally recognized family can make it challenging to find private moments while balancing education and personal growth.

Despite that, Zahara said her mother remains deeply engaged in her life at Spelman College, showing interest in her academic journey, sorority involvement, and experiences on campus.

Describing Jolie as a “selfless” and “understanding” figure, Zahara said she has often taken on a nurturing role within her own family, inspired by her mother’s example.

Now serving as vice president of her sorority chapter, Zahara said she hopes to pursue a future in youth development and mentorship, emphasizing the importance of positive role models in shaping young lives.

Concluding her speech, she quoted a saying reflecting her admiration for her mother’s strength, turning directly toward Jolie to thank her for her guidance and support.

Angelina Jolie shares Zahara with her former husband Brad Pitt, along with their other children Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox.
