Texas house party shooting: 2 teens killed, 10 injured
A shooting at a gathering in Texas resulted in two teenage fatalities and 10 injuries
A shooting at a gathering in Texas resulted in two teenage fatalities and 10 injuries, while the suspects remain unidentified.
The Amarillo Police Department (APD) mentioned in a statement posted on Facebook that the shooting occurred at a residential area on South Coulter Street around 2am local time on Saturday (May 2).
The police explained that the party, which attracted "juveniles and young adults," initially began elsewhere before relocating to the apartment site.
Investigators suggested early findings indicate that certain attendees were asked to leave the initial venue and trailed others to the apartment location on South Coulter Street. Police described how they “tried to force entry into an apartment and started shooting with a rifle-like weapon.”
Chilling video footage captured by a home security camera near the incident site, released by law enforcement, shows several people fleeing as multiple gunshots are heard.
Authorities identified the two lives lost as 17-year-old Ezekiel Rudy Almazan and an unidentified 16-year-old male. An additional 10 individuals were harmed, including gunshot-related injuries.
A Glock 9mm pistol was located on a stairway outside an apartment, and officials suspect various firearms were involved due to shell casings found in an adjacent alleyway.
Police stated two suspects are still at large, with their relationship to the victims "undetermined," although they suggested the attack seemed targeted. The motive behind the shooting remains undisclosed by investigators.
In a statement made on May 2, Amarillo Police Chief Thomas Hover commented that "the investigation into today’s incident has shown that the suspects have a connection with the intended location and were familiar to one of the party’s attendees."
Hover expressed, "Such criminal conduct is not acceptable. The Amarillo Police Department, alongside our regional law enforcement allies, prioritises our community's security."
Authorities are appealing to the public to provide any doorbell or security footage of the event or any suspicious activities in the vicinity to the authorities.
"This case is still active," officials stated. "More details will be shared as they are confirmed."
