Matt Damon hails Christopher Nolan as phenomenal writer ahead of 'The Odyssey'
The actor says Nolan’s work on 'Oppenheimer' shows his extraordinary writing skill
Matt Damon has offered high praise for filmmaker Christopher Nolan, calling his writing “phenomenal” while reflecting on their latest collaboration on the upcoming epic The Odyssey.
Speaking about working with Nolan over several months during production, Damon said the acclaimed director is widely recognized for his filmmaking vision, but believes his writing talent is often underestimated.
“Chris is obviously a phenomenon, and everybody knows that. But I don’t think people understand how good a writer he is,” Damon said, highlighting Nolan’s ability to craft complex narratives with depth and precision.
He pointed to Nolan’s work on Oppenheimer as an example, praising how the director transformed a dense historical biography into a tightly structured, character-driven screenplay.
Damon added that Nolan’s writing process stands out for its ability to balance scale with emotional detail, allowing each character to feel fully developed even within expansive storylines.
“It was just an unbelievable feat of writing,” he said, adding that Nolan has brought the same level of craft to The Odyssey, which he described as a “phenomenal screenplay.”
The film, set for release on July 17, 2026, features a star-studded cast including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson, alongside Damon himself.
