Woman charged with cruelty following unlicensed medical procedures on pets

A California woman has been arrested on charges of animal cruelty after allegedly falsely claiming she was a licensed veterinarian to perform surgeries on pets.

The Visalia Police Department confirmed that Amanahy Becerra, 24, was taken into custody on Wednesday, following a detailed investigation into her activities.

Authorities allege that Becerra performed complex medical procedures, including C-sections, spaying, and neutering, without any formal qualifications or training.

Distressing evidence suggests that Becerra recorded these illegal acts and shared them on various social media platforms.

Detectives discovered that Becerra failed to use proper anaesthesia during these procedures, causing animals to suffer "intense and unnecessary pain."

According to a police news release, several pets suffered serious medical complications requiring emergency care, and one dog tragically died.

Police spokesperson Liz Jones informed ABC 30 that Becerra also performed ear-clippings and administered vaccines, offering her services at a discounted rate to unsuspecting owners.

"She was claiming to be licensed but she was not certified. She was not licensed at all," Jones stated, describing the situation as "heartbreaking."

Following the issuance of a felony warrant, officers executed a search at Becerra’s residence and booked her into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Detention Facility.

Investigators are currently reviewing her social media history to gather further physical and video evidence. This case highlights a growing concern regarding unregulated medical services advertised online.

Historically, the region has seen a rise in unlicensed veterinary practices, leading to stricter enforcement and calls for pet owners to verify credentials via state regulatory boards before seeking treatment for their animals.
