Natalie Portman and Jonathan Bailey push limits in new thriller 'Pumping Black'
Director Mimi Cave describes the project as a high-intensity psychological drama
Natalie Portman and Jonathan Bailey are set to star together in a new psychological thriller titled Pumping Black, a high-intensity drama that pushes both physical and emotional boundaries.
The upcoming project is directed by Mimi Cave, known for her work on Fresh, and centers on the world of professional cycling, where ambition and control begin to unravel under extreme pressure.
According to reports, the film follows an ageing cyclist forced into a brutal psychological and physical struggle as competition, secrecy, and obsession take over his life.
Industry sources have described the tone of the film as a blend of psychological intensity similar to Whiplash and Black Swan, both known for their exploration of mental breakdown under pressure.
The project is being backed by Anton, with international sales expected to launch at Cannes. Production is scheduled to begin later this year.
The film will also be produced by Stacey Sher alongside Portman’s production banner, MountainA.
Bailey, who has recently gained major attention for his roles in Jurassic World Rebirth and Wicked: For Good, continues to build momentum as one of Hollywood’s rising leading men.
Portman, meanwhile, adds another high-profile project to her slate following a series of critically acclaimed performances across both film and television.
Pumping Black marks a significant collaboration between the two stars as they prepare to explore one of the most psychologically demanding roles of their careers.
