John Travolta’s Cannes red carpet look triggers plastic surgery speculation
The 72-year-old actor was honoured with a Palme d’Or before premiering his directorial debut
John Travolta’s appearance at the Cannes Film Festival has set social media buzzing, with fans debating whether the Hollywood veteran’s youthful look is the result of styling, grooming, or cosmetic work.
The 72-year-old actor attended the festival on Friday, where he was honoured with an honorary Palme d’Or before the premiere of his directorial debut Propeller One-Way Night Coach.
Travolta appeared on the red carpet in a cream beret, round glasses, a sharply groomed beard, and a tailored black suit, drawing immediate attention online.
While the moment was meant to celebrate his decades-long career, much of the conversation quickly shifted to his appearance, with many users expressing surprise at how young he looked for his age.
Some viewers even speculated about possible plastic surgery, including facelifts and cosmetic fillers, though Travolta has never publicly confirmed undergoing any procedures.
Others defended the actor, attributing his look to careful styling, grooming, and overall presentation, noting that red-carpet preparation often plays a significant role in celebrity appearances.
Travolta’s Cannes honour came ahead of the premiere of Propeller One-Way Night Coach, marking his first directorial feature.
Accepting the award, the Pulp Fiction star described the recognition as deeply meaningful, calling it “beyond the Oscar.”
The ceremony added another milestone to a career that spans more than four decades. Travolta first rose to fame in the late 1970s with Saturday Night Fever and Carrie, before experiencing a major career revival in the 1990s with Pulp Fiction.
He went on to star in major hits including Get Shorty, Face/Off, and Hairspray, cementing his status as one of Hollywood’s most recognisable leading men.
Reflecting on his journey at Cannes, Travolta said he felt fortunate to have lived a life connected to multiple forms of performance, including acting, music, dance, and aviation.
His new film is screening in the Cannes Premiere section and is scheduled for release on Apple TV on May 29.
