Kim Kardashian has taken to Instagram to express relief after the execution of a death row prisoner in Tennessee was brought to a halt.
"God was intervening," she wrote on her Instagram Story on Thursday, sharing news that the inmate had avoided execution after medical staff encountered complications whilst attempting to administer a lethal injection.
Who is Tony Carruthers?
Tony Carruthers was convicted in 1994 of the kidnapping and murder of three people in Memphis. His execution was stalled after medical staff were unable to locate a suitable vein for the procedure.
Following the failed attempt, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee granted Carruthers a one-year reprieve. Kardashian subsequently thanked supporters who had contacted the governor's office, writing: "I truly believe the pressure from all of us helped."
Calls for DNA testing
Kardashian described the failed procedure as "absolute torture" and used the platform to urge that DNA and fingerprint testing be carried out on evidence she believes could prove Carruthers' innocence.
