Corey Feldman was rushed to hospital on Monday after suffering a medical emergency aboard a flight from Chicago to Los Angeles, which landed at LAX on Monday afternoon. The Goonies star, 54, was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
TMZ first reported the incident. A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson confirmed to the outlet that it had responded to the airport to assist a 54-year-old male.
Suspected pancreatitis or gallstones
A source close to Feldman told TMZ that the actor had begun feeling unwell during the flight and was examined by a fellow passenger who is a doctor. Doctors are believed to suspect Feldman may be suffering from either pancreatitis — an inflammation of the pancreas — or gallstones, the outlet reported.
Gallstones are hardened deposits of digestive fluid that accumulate in the gallbladder and can cause sudden and intense pain if they become obstructive, per the Mayo Clinic.
Chicago trip for Stand By Me anniversary
Feldman had been in Chicago to mark the 40th anniversary of the 1986 film Stand By Me. He appeared alongside co-stars Jerry O'Connell and Wil Wheaton at Stand By Me: The Film and Its Stars 40 Years Later at The Chicago Theatre on Sunday night.
Late on Sunday, Feldman shared a carousel of photos and videos to Instagram documenting the trip, including a stop at Michael Jackson's childhood home in Gary, Indiana, en route to the event. He noted that the impromptu visit coincided with the 10th anniversary of the King of Pop's death. Jackson died on 25 June 2009, aged 50, after suffering a heart attack caused by a drug overdose.
