Anne Hathaway fights back tears after Whoopi Goldberg's emotional tribute

Anne Hathaway became emotional after Whoopi Goldberg surprised her with heartfelt praise during Monday's episode of The View while promoting Christopher Nolan's new film The Odyssey.

The actress appeared alongside co-star Matt Damon and the Oscar-winning director to discuss the epic adaptation of Homer's classic poem.

Goldberg praises Hathaway's career

During the interview, Goldberg reflected on Hathaway's journey in Hollywood, telling the actress she had loved watching her grow over the years.

"It's been wonderful watching you grow up," Goldberg said. "You have just blossomed, turned into this fabulous actress."

The emotional tribute prompted Hathaway to cover her face as she fought back tears before quietly responding, "No, don't."

Goldberg encouraged her to accept the compliment, saying, "Yes, you need to know."

Hathaway says she would have cried anyway

The Devil Wears Prada 2 star, who is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman, joked that her pregnancy wasn't entirely responsible for the emotional reaction.

"I would have reacted this way even if I wasn't pregnant," Hathaway said before thanking Goldberg for her kind words.

"I don't even know what to say. Thank you. You know how I feel about you."

Goldberg also praises Matt Damon

Goldberg also took a moment to applaud Damon, recalling that she had admired him since they first met at the Academy Awards.

She described the actor as someone who always felt "like home" and thanked him for consistently being "upright and great" throughout his career.

Before ending the segment, Goldberg encouraged viewers to watch The Odyssey, calling it a film worth seeing.

Another emotional week for Hathaway

The appearance marked Hathaway's second emotional television interview in recent days.

During a recent appearance on Today, the actress became teary-eyed after receiving a The Odyssey-themed baby gift basket featuring handmade items for her growing family.

Hathaway is set to appear in several major releases this year, including The Devil Wears Prada 2, Mother Mary, The End of Oak Street and Verity.
