Joel Edgerton names two Hollywood icons he admired as a kid

Joel Edgerton shared that two of Hollywood's biggest legends decorated his bedroom walls while he was growing up—even though he hadn't seen a single one of their films at the time.

The Dark Matter star made the confession during Entertainment Weekly's 2026 San Diego Comic-Con studio alongside co-star Jennifer Connelly.

Edgerton admits he hadn't seen their films

Edgerton said he had posters of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean in his room as a child because he already knew they were cultural icons.

However, he admitted he only watched their films much later in life.

"For some reason, I knew that they were iconic characters, but I'd never watched a single movie of either of them until much later."

The actor jokingly described the admission as "embarrassing."

Favourite films also covered his walls

Alongside the classic Hollywood icons, Edgerton said he also displayed posters from films he genuinely loved.

He recalled having posters for the 1987 vampire classic The Lost Boys as well as The Goonies, both of which were among his favourite childhood films.

Jennifer Connelly had a different childhood obsession

While Edgerton filled his room with movie posters, Jennifer Connelly said she never had posters on her walls growing up.

Instead, she revealed she was fascinated by legendary stunt performer Evel Knievel.

After learning she never owned an Evel Knievel poster, Edgerton jokingly suggested someone should get one for her immediately.
