‘Tiana’: Voice actress Anika Noni Rose responds after Disney scraps series

Earlier in March, Disney cancelled the continuation of The Princess and the Frog protagonist, Tiana’s, story.

Deadline described the project as, “an animated musical series offshoot of The Princess and the Frog movie.”

The series was being worked at the streaming platform, Disney+.

Now, the voice artist for Tiana from the original film, Anika Noni Rose, has expressed her displeasure with the move.

The actress vented with her Instagram followers regarding the cancellation, with a slideshow of personal statements.

She wrote that while she has “been asked by different outlets to make a statement”, she has chosen to speak with her audience directly.

“I too am deeply disappointed that the continuation of Tiana's journey in series form has been cut short,” Anika wrote before also extending her thanks to the writer and director of the project, among other artists.

“A lot of beautiful work was put into it all by the creatives involved, including -but not limited to- long time champion Jenn Lee, our wonderful writer/director Joyce Sherri, some fabulous animators, and an amazing music team,” the actress shared in her statement.

The series was first announced in December 2020, with Anika on-board to reprise her role as the titular Disney Princess from the 2009 film.
