Eddie Murphy teases return of ‘Shrek’ universe with Donkey spinoff

Eddie Murphy has dished some major news regarding a new part of the beloved Shrek universe.

While promoting his upcoming release, The Pickup, the comedian shared progress about the fifth installment of Shrek, which is currently under production.

“We’re still in the booth, and literally, we’re still doing ‘Shrek’,” he told Screenrant.

Adding that Shrek 5 has been in development for two years, the Beverly Hills Cop actor also revealed that his character in the animated movie is getting his own spinoff as well.

“We start in September on ‘Donkey’ — we’re doing a Donkey one, and that’ll be released three years from now,” he continued.

The 64-year-old actor also shared that Donkey’s movie is going to be reminiscent of the Puss in Boots spinoff, which starred Antonio Banderas voicing the titular character.

While he further dished that Donkey’s arc in the upcoming spinoff will feature “his dragon wife and his kids that are half-dragon and half-donkeys.”

Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy will next appear in Prime Video’s heist comedy The Pickup, which will be out on August 6 and also stars Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson.
