Is ‘Avatar’ next chapter an animated spin-off?
‘Avatar’ director James Cameron teases future of Avatar film franchise

It looks like Avatar film franchise is staying with us longer as its director, James Cameron has teased at its spin-off.
The 70-year-old director, who is currently busy filming the sci-fi franchise’s next instalment Avatar: Fire and Ash, in an interview with Empire magazine revealed that he wants to do an animated anthology series.
“I said, ‘Look, I want to do an animated anthology series that’s essentially in the world,” the Titanic filmmaker said, adding, “But stories that you wouldn’t have expected from that world.”
The Terminator director went on to say that the animated project would be a feature for streaming, or a theatrical feature.
According to Cameron, the Avatar project would be akin to that of The Animatrix which was the animated anthology spin-off movie of The Matrix franchise.
In this regard, the Aliens filmmaker said, “A good early example is The Animatrix, where they went afield in the Matrix world.
“These are all great examples for how we can add texture and baroque detail to the world of Avatar.”
Before concluding, James Cameron hoped that the animated Avatar series will deliver “backstory on characters and tangential stuff that happened off-camera within the movies”.
