Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau are currently dominating news for their unexpected pairing, as several outlets have reported that the singer and former Canadian prime minister met over dinner in Montreal last evening.

Though the Fireworks hitmaker’s potential relationship start with the politician has sparked public interest due to her recent split with actor fiancé Orlando Bloom, the couple’s unusual nature is also serving as headline fodder.

To that end, the latest celebrity-politician duo would not be the first time the world of entertainment and politics has brushed shoulders.

Here are the most eye brow raising such romances:

Barbra Streisand and Pierre Trudeau

As it turns out, Justin would not be the first from his family to go down the showbiz route for a romantic partner.

His father, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau once dated famous singer and actress Barbra Streisand.

While the pair met at the premiere of Barbra’s 1968 musical film Funny Girl, the relationship eventually did not last long, ending two years later, in 1970.

Regarding the brief romance, the Oscar-winning star’s memoir My Name is Barbra revealed, “But for me, there was something missing. My brain was in love, but not my body.”

Though she also described her ex flame as “dapper, intelligent, intense”.

Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy

Taylor Swift once sparked romance rumours with Conor Kennedy, part of the famous American political legacy, the Kennedy household.

The pair were first linked with each other in the summer of 2012, though they soon broke up by the fall of the same year.

Notably, there were also rumours of the Cruel Summer singer striking up a relationship with the Kennedy heir, due to her obsession with his family.

In August 2012, a source for Us Weekly revealed, “She’s obsessed with the family.”

During the same month, the Grammy winner took a further drastic step by purchasing property near the Kennedy family’s dwelling, in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.

By October, after the couple had gone their separate ways, Taylor Swift released her fourth studio album Red, with its track Begin Again largely interpreted to have been about her relationship with Conor Kennedy.

Madonna and JFK Jr.

Another Kennedy, deceased US President John F. Kennedy’s son, JFK Jr. had embarked upon his fair share of highly publicised celebrity relationships.

While many of those trysts are well known, particularly with actress Daryl Hannah, the late attorney’s relationship with Madonna was also the talk of the town back when it transpired.

Though the pair’s affair in the 1980s was a brief one, they stayed in touch sporadically over the years, with the formerly elusive bachelor even inviting the songstress to pose for his magazine, George.

In the junior Kennedy’s biography JFK Jr.: An Intimate Oral Biography, author RoseMarie Terenzio revealed that he wanted to dress Madonna as his mother, Jackie Kennedy, for the magazine’s cover.

Notably, Jackie had disapproved of her son’s former relationship with the Material Girl singer, as she was legally married to Sean Penn at the time of their fling.

For the cover, she turned him down, informing her decision in writing by fax, “Dear Johnny boy, Thanks for asking me to be your mother, but I’m afraid, I could never do her justice. My eyebrows aren’t thick enough for one…”.

Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy

Popular supermodel from the ‘90s, Carla Bruni married French President Nicolas Sarkozy in February 2008, following a year of courtship.

As the model and singer went on to become the First Lady of France, she was soon spotted accompanying her husband to various formal dinners and similar events.

Despite being used to public life, thanks to her heyday as a model, Carla found the spotlight which was cast on her as a president’s wife to be “hell”.

A far cry from her wild modelling days, the new role in the political sphere came with a lot of expectations, as well as the weight of meeting several customs and traditions.

On the February 2008 occasion of a state visit to the UK, the former supermodel suffered a public scandal when Christie’s auction house published a nude photograph of her taken at the time she used to model.

While the couple are still going strong, Carla Bruni shed light on her days being the French First Lady, describing the period after as “without stress”.

“You know, it’s really nice to be without pressure. It’s really nice to be without stress, and family life is more easy now...I loved it, but I don’t really miss it,” she told CNBC.

Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner

A second supermodel with the penchant for political romance is Karlie Kloss, who married Joshua Kushner.

As Joshua’s brother, Jared Kushner, is married to Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and has served as Senior Advisor for his father-in-law, the Kushners are well acquainted with American state affairs.

Despite her husband and his family’s Conservative leaning, the supermodel herself aligns with the Democratic Party and liberal politics.

When Trump’s supporters rioted at the White House following their leader’s election loss on January 6, 2021, she addressed the incident in a tweet which read, “Accepting the results of a legitimate democratic election is patriotic. Refusing to do so and inciting violence is anti-American.”

Even going as far as to respond to a user who advised her to share this sentiment with her in-laws, Jared and Ivanka, Karlie stated, “I’ve tried.”

Notably though, Joshua Kushner also identifies as a Democrat.

The couple share two sons, Levi and Elijah, while they also announced a third pregnancy in March 2025.
