Victoria Police have confirmed they are investigating historical sexual assault allegations made against Katy Perry by Australian actress Ruby Rose.
The Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) is currently looking into claims regarding an incident that reportedly occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD in 2010.
A police spokesperson stated: "As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage." The alleged encounter is said to have taken place at the Spice Market nightclub.
Katy Perry’s representatives have firmly denied the accusations, describing them as "dangerous lies" and "reckless."
In a statement provided to Variety, her team noted: "The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies."
They further claimed that the actress has a "well-documented history" of making serious public allegations against various individuals, which have been repeatedly denied by those named.
Rose, who recently turned 40, initiated the police probe after filing a formal complaint. However, she has since ceased public commentary on the matter.
"This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved," she wrote, explaining that the silence was a standard police request. "I can start the healing process now."
The allegations first surfaced in a series of graphic social media posts where Rose claimed the assault occurred during her twenties.
Perry, 41, rose to global fame following her 2008 breakout and has since become one of the world's best-selling musical artists.
