You think you know everything about the celebrities you love and admire, from their box office hit movies to their top trending songs. But despite their fame and fortune, many of these stars have personal stories that might surprise you.

While adoption, which is a beautiful way to build families, is not always widely known when celebrities have been adopted.

However, many stars in Hollywood have spoken publicly about their adoption experiences, inspiring others with their stories; here is a list of famous faces who are adopted:   

Lana Condor

The To All the Boys I Loved Before actress was adopted from Vietnam in 1997 when she was five months old.

Her adoptive parents, Mary Carol and Robert Condor, renamed her Lana Therese Condor.

"I have an adopted brother, too. We aren't related or from the same adoption agency or anything, though," said the actress told Elle in 2018, adding, "So, people don't know how to talk about adoption. They don't know how to approach me, because they think it's a sensitive subject."

Condor went on to say, "However, I love to talk about it. I like to make people feel more comfortable, and it's great to have this platform and be able to shed light on adoption and how it's a beautiful thing, instead of being tiptoed around."

According to the Boo, Bitch actress, her parents tried their best to educate her and her brother on where they came from.

Condor concluded, saying, "The way that I grew up was that your experience is your experience. I think there's a misconception that all Asian-American experiences are the same. My experiences with my family and the way they wanted me to know my culture are not the same as others."

Jack Nicholson

The legendary actor, who starred in The Shining, was 37 when he shockingly found out that the woman he believed to be his mother was his grandmother and that his sister was in reality his mother.

Life happens with everyone so does it with celebrities; Nicholson's birth mother was 17 when she had him and eventually asked her parents to raise Nicholson as their own.

They agreed, and Jack didn't find out the truth until he was 37, a decade after his mother and grandmother had passed away.

In one of the interviews, the 88-year-old actor talked about his life-shattering revelation, saying, "I'd say it was a pretty dramatic event, but it wasn't what I'd call traumatizing ... As a matter of fact, it made quite a few things clearer to me. If anything, I felt grateful."

Jamie Foxx

The actor was adopted by his grandparents, Estelle and Mark Talley when he was seven months old.

However, Foxx did not discover he was adopted until he was five years old.

Surprisingly to this day, he does not have a relationship with his biological parents.

Trace Cyrus

Trace Cyrus is the biological son of Tish Cyrus, the ex-wife of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. He was adopted by Billy Ray Cyrus when he was four years old.

After the adoption, he legally changed his name from Neil Timothy Helson to Trace Dempsey Cyrus.

Keegan-Michael Key

Keegan-Michael Key was adopted at birth by social workers Michael Key and Patricia Walsh.

Although his parents later divorced, he maintained a close relationship with his stepmother and adoptive mother.

Aware of his adoption, he searched for his biological mother in his mid-twenties.

Key, during an 2015 episode of Pete Holmes' You Made It Weird podcast, told the comedian he had "a lot of parents."

He was adopted at birth by a couple who would then soon divorce — his adopted father then re-married, and he became close with his stepmom as well, as per the actor.

He also told that at the age of 25, Key then "had a moving reunion with his biological mother."

Ray Liotta

The late Goodfellas star and his sister were both adopted.

In 2014, he told Larry King that when he tracked down his birth mother, he "realized when I met her that she did it for very valid reasons and then realized that almost 99% of kids that are put up for adoption, it's for the betterment of the kid … The household, the situation, the age just dictate that's the best thing to do for the child."

He also told The Guardian in April 2007 that he was grateful that he was adopted.

Sarah McLachlan

One of three adopted children, the singer was adopted by the McLachlan family in 1968 and met her biological mother at 19 and learned that her mother had been a student when she gave birth to her.

John Lennon

Although John Lennon's parents, Julia and Alf Lennon, never officially divorced, his mother’s sister, Mimi, took custody of him.

Later the musician eventually lost contact with his biological father but remained in touch with his mother until her death in 1958.

Snooki

Nicole “Snookie” Polizzi was born in Chile and was was adopted at six months old by an Italian-American couple from New York.

In one of the interviews, Polizzi told that she never searched for her birth parents because she is content with the family she has.

The former president of South Africa, was just nine years old when his father died of lung disease and he was adopted by Chief Jongintaba Dalindyebo of the Thembu people.

Marilyn Monroe

Last but not the least, Monroe although was not adopted but spent most of her childhood in foster homes and an orphanage due to her birth mother's inability to care for her.

The late popular actress’ mother struggled with mental illness, and her father was unknown, leaving her to bounce around between foster care and orphanages until the age of 11.
