Breaking up is hard enough, but imagine finding out about your split not in private, but through the media. That’s even worse as it amplifies the heartbreak.

Here's a list of celebrities who discovered their relationships had ended at the same time as the rest of the world.

The Game of Thrones alum and the Cake by the Ocean crooner were once considered major couple goals during their four-year marriage.

However, following their high-profile split in 2023, Sophie claimed she learned Joe was filing for divorce through the internet, per Buzzfeed.

In a lawsuit filed in Manhattan and obtained by People, the Joan actress revealed she found out about the Sucker singer’s divorce filing “through the media.”

Additionally, Sophie detailed that the “breakdown” of their marriage happened “very suddenly following an argument” on Joe’s 34th birthday on August 15.

He filed for divorce nearly three weeks later on September 5 in Miami.

A representative for the American singer denied the claim, saying, “Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce."

It is pertinent to mention that the estranged couple first sparked romance in 2016, tied the knot in 2019, and welcomed two daughters.

Sophie and Joe have since reached a settlement, according to People.

"To address speculation — myself and Rita ended our relationship some time ago. She is a beautiful, talented woman & I wish her all the best,” he wrote at the time.

The Sun reported that the For You songstress wasn’t expecting the Outside hitmaker to go public with the news.

Later, she told Wonderland, "At the time... I just wanted to crawl in my bed and die. But I got out of it the other side, I'm surviving,"

Some time later, Rita reflected on the breakup during Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

"The thing is, I don't keep grudges with anybody. Everybody uses social media how they want. I choose not to so that's just my personal way to express myself, but everyone does their own thing,” she said.

According to Buzzfeed, the couple set a bizarre record by staying married only 72 days.

"I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce," Kris said in a statement to E! News in October 2011.

He added, "I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."

To note, the former couple's divorce was finalised in 2013.
