Prince William thrills bystanders with his volleyball skills at Copacabana Beach
Prince William has landed in Brazil to attend the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony
Prince William paid a visit to one of the most vibrant shoreline attractions in the world, the Copacabana Beach in the Brazilian capital of Rio de Janeiro, on November 3.
In town for the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony and the COP30, the future king first made time to have a crack at some volleyball during his latest engagement.
Sharing amusing snaps from his game on the beach via the official Instagram account of the Prince and Princess of Wales, the 43-year-old royal was also joined by the Brazilian Olympic winner for volleyball, Carolina Solberg.
“Great fun joining Olympian @carol_solberg’s beach volleyball school which is aiming to transform the lives of disadvantaged children through sport. An amazing project,” the post’s caption stated. It was further translated into Portuguese, Brazil’s official language.
Though the heir apparent put on quite an athletic display once he got going, he reportedly told the players around him, “Hi guys, be nice,” before the game began.
“He’s tall. He can hit, he can. I think he could be really good if he practices more,” Solberg told PEOPLE about her time observing the Prince. “He’s such a gentle [person] and showed kindness with everyone.”
Prince William started his visit to Copacabana by meeting Rio de Janeiro’s Military Fire Brigade, who provide lifeguard services on the beach. He will attend the 2025 Earthshot Prize Awards on November 5, later scheduled to make an appearance at and deliver an address during the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference, better known as COP30.
