5 shocking times Royal Family were confronted by hecklers
Royal Family members may have many fans but occasionally are also confronted with hecklers
More often than not, Royal family members are met with enthusiastic cheers, applause and praise. But there are some rare moments when they are also faced with hecklers.
Some people shout out anti-monarchist chants, while others question the cost of the royal family's security paid by the UK taxpayer.
Here are some shocking times Royal family members were faced with hecklers:
King Charles
The latest victim of the public heckling was none other than King Charles himself. The 76-year-old Monarch was heckled during his visit to Staffordshire in October 2025.
As he arrived in Lichfield Cathedral to meet with volunteers, one protester stepped forward to confront him.
Pointing to the continuous scrutiny of King Charles’ brother and former royal Andrew’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein, fuelled by Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir and reports he kept in contact with Epstein longer than claimed, a man yelled at the King, "How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein? Have you asked the police to cover up for Andrew?"
Continuing, "Should the MPs be allowed to debate the royals in the House of Commons?"
Despite this ordeal, the Monarch maintained his calm and continued to greet other members of the public, shaking their hands and chatting with them.
King Charles (again)
Earlier in the summer, the King had faced another heckler who shouted his concerns about how much the Royal family costs the tax payers.
"Why does your family cost us half a billion pounds a year, Charles?" a heckler called out as the King and Queen were seen at a walkabout in Newmarket.
"Ah, yes," the King quipped.
But the heckler didn’t stop there as they yelled out, "Why do you only pay your gardeners minimum wage?"
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor
In September 2022, at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor faced backlash over his alleged ties with Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre's sexual abuse allegations.
The heckler, who was a 22-year-old man, called out the 65-year-old ex-Royal, saying, "Andrew, you're a sick old man."
Prince William
Although Prince William loves football, and is the President of the Football Association, he was surprisingly booed at the May 2022 FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea.
Despite Prince of Wales taking the reaction like a champ, keeping his composure, members of parliament were left upset over the situation, with the Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, saying, "I utterly condemn any fans who booed Prince William at Wembley today. The FA Cup final should be an occasion when we come together as a country. It should not be ruined by a minority of fans' totally shameful behaviour. In this year of all years, the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, this is dreadful."
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were also not safe from hecklers during their visit to Ireland just two months after tying the knot in 2018.
Meeting sculptor Rowan Gillespie, who created a memorial to honor Irish Famine victims, they were confronted with chants of "Up the RA" and the Republican slogan "Tiocfaidh ár lá" ("Our day will come".)
But keeping their composure, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ignored them as they went on about their day.
