Teyana Taylor sheds lights on her bold creative Hollywood journey

The actor-director-singer-choreographer-dancer, Teyana Taylor shared updates about her work in a recent interview.

During her appearance at Deadline’s Taken Ten, on the eve of the Golden Globes, where she is nominated in the Supporting category, she revealed insights about her culinary goals, music that lifts her mood and a scene from One Battle After Another that didn’t make the final cut.

The Straw actress also reflected on her decision to retire from her music career at one point, despite many people warning her against it.

That “leap of faith, that faith walk” ended up being life-changing. “If I would have stayed stagnant, being shelved or underused, or just staying put in one box, I would never have known how many other doors were open for me,” she said.

For the unversed, in One Battle, Taylor plays Perfidia Beverly Hills, a revolutionary and partner to Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Bob.

When Sean Penn’s character, Col. Steven J. Lockjaw, becomes obsessed with Perfidia, a series of calamitous events follows.

Taylor says working with Anderson taught her a lot, especially for her own directing ambitions. She is set to direct her first feature, Get Lite, starring Storm Reid, and has previously directed music videos and the short Escape Room.

With a new culinary career on the horizon, the 35-year-old star revealed her dedication, saying she even studied for culinary school exams in the car on the way to the One Battle premiere—focusing on how to make the perfect post-party margarita.

Taylor is also preparing for Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s All’s Fair, which follows a group of lawyers.

She stars alongside Niecy Nash, Kim Kardashian, Sarah Paulson, Naomi Watts, and Glenn Close. “I look forward to how our characters grow and how they blossom,” she said of the upcoming season.

The Coming 2 America actress also called her co-stars “sisters” and said one of her favorite memories from Season 1 was the group chat. “I would tell you the name but it’s way too provocative.”

In addition, Teyana Taylor shared which One Battle After Another co-star she’d love to sing karaoke with, the movies and shows she’s obsessed with this season, and a ’90s film that had a huge impact on her.
