Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about a role that she believes was lost due to internet chatter.

During a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Oscar winner said she believes she missed out on Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood after online commenters claimed she wasn’t “pretty enough” to portray Sharon Tate.

"Everybody was like, she’s not pretty enough to play Sharon Tate,’” Lawrence said of director Quentin Tarantino.

The Red Sparrow actress also added that internet chatter may have influenced the decision or at least shaped how she remembers it.

“I’m pretty sure that’s true,” she said, adding, “Or it’s that thing where I’ve been telling the story for so long that way, I believe it.”

Lawrence then joked that there was another possibility. “Or he just never was considering me for the part and the internet just went out of its way to call me ugly,” she said.

However, podcast host Josh Horowitz pushed back, insisting the internet would “never do that,” prompting laughter from Lawrence.

Margot Robbie was ultimately cast as Tate in Tarantino’s 2019 film. Sharon Tate’s sister, Debra Tate, later said she preferred Robbie for the role, citing her physical resemblance to Sharon.

Tarantino has since clarified that Lawrence was considered for a different role in the film and praised her as an actress he respects.
