Hilary Duff has entered a bolder, more unfiltered era with the release of her new single “Roommates.”

The 38-year-old singer dropped the NSFW track on Friday, January 16, alongside a moody music video that subtly nods to her 2003 breakout hit “Come Clean.”

Hilary's song serves as the latest preview from her upcoming album, Luck… or Something, due February 20.

“Roommates” captures the tension that settles into long-term relationships, pairing explicit lyrics with themes of emotional distance and longing.

She sings about missing the early spark, when romance felt reckless and uninhibited, before routine and responsibility took over.

In a statement, Duff described the track as “the ache for a wilder, freer time,” explaining that it reflects the desire to reconnect with one’s rhythm, partner and sense of self amid everyday pressures.

The accompanying video places Duff inside a domestic setting, performing as rain pours indoors, an intentional callback to the storm-soaked imagery of “Come Clean.”

As the video showed, a wall collapses to reveal an open field, signaling emotional release and renewal.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Duff acknowledged the reference, calling it a subtle “Easter egg” from her long career. “It’s nice to have another rain moment,” she said.

“Roommates” was co-written with Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, who praised her performance online.

Duff will support the album with select tour dates and Las Vegas residency shows in the coming months.
