Grandson charged with murder after allegedly shooting grandmother in apartment
Neighbours express shock over the fatal incident, calling it 'hard to process' over such a dispute
A 21-year-old Arlington man has been arrested after allegedly fatally shooting his grandmother following an argument over allowance money, authorities said.
Rontrell Jackson was taken into custody after the Arlington Police Department (APD) responded to a call at 4:40 p.m. on March 20, reporting that a 68-year-old woman had been found unresponsive on her apartment patio.
Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been publicly released.
According to the APD, investigators learned that Jackson and the victim had recently engaged in a “heated argument” over lost allowance funds.
During questioning, Jackson allegedly admitted to shooting his grandmother earlier that morning inside the apartment and then moving her body to the patio.
Authorities recovered a firearm believed to be the murder weapon at the scene. Jackson was charged with murder and initially booked into Arlington City Jail before being transferred to Tarrant County Jail, where he is being held on a $750,000 bond.
Neighbors expressed shock at the incident. Jerry and Keiarra Dennis, who live nearby, told WFAA, “For someone to have lost their life over an allowance, over a disagreement, that’s the part where it's hard to process.”
Police and the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office have been contacted for additional comment. The investigation remains ongoing.
